Hi
sorry for late response I missed this post yesterday
It has been a long time since Philips version 1.2.9.47
In principle you should be able to install fvdw-sl-14-0 right away using the firmware menu of the Philips 1.2.9.47 web interface.
However I never tested it myself.
Also we found that there are spd8020 out there with a deviating partition size of 100 MB instead of 256 MB
if you are the owner of such an exceptional case then you can upgrade to 14-0 as it won't firt on the partition. In that case you will need to remove the disk and repartition it (see guide for installing a new harddisk)
But if it has normal size partitions it should go via the webinterface.
To find out what you have you can do two things
(1) just try to upgrade , if it fails then it will just boot again the old Philips firmware
(2) check with ssh client (Putty) what kind of partition table is on the disk and if it is ok do the upgrade via de web interface
To log in with putty (ssh) use username: root and password: giveit2me
Then at the linux command prompt do
- Code: Select all
fdisk -l /dev/sda
and post the output here to check the partition table
It might be a good idea before doing it to make a back up of important data you may have stored on the spd8020
There is in principle no risk of losing it but if the upgrade fails and the nas refuses to boot after the upgrade then you will need to remove the disk from the casing to correct the error or retrieve the data by connecting it to a pc running Linux. For a non linux user this can be a difficult process
