missing directory entries

missing directory entries

Postby elmulab » Sat Apr 06, 2013 6:27 pm

philips SPD8020 with 500 gb upgraded to 1000 GB, works fine.

access with windows xp:
i have ~1050 directory entries in one directory. now i noted that not all directories are listed. ~25 entries are not shown.
when i move ~50 directory entries in an other folder, then all ~1000 directory entries are listed and the previously missing ones are shown and accessable.

access with an risc os computer:
no problem. the nas serves all ~1050 entries and so risc os displays all entries.

any ideas?

it makes no difference wich program i use under win xp e.g. explorer, other apps... the same missing entries with all.

I don't have a good answer but I am pretty sure you must search on the windows side.

if the content is correctly listed with another OS then the samba server is right.

I assume there should have some limit with XP and your issue seems validate this point :

1050 -25 ~1024 = 2^10 (what seems a byte number !)

So you must search (google) if you can set a value in the XP register

yes, it seems to be a problem on the xp side. thx.

nope! hours later...

update from the original philips to the fvdw firmware version 10
then a test: works
then update to the fvdw-sl firmware version 14-0
then configure some simple things
then access test from my old risc os system (without password): works perfect, ~1050 directory entries are there
little problems to get an new xp drive letter (without any password)
now using \\<nas-ip-number>\public it works

now the important test: yeahh! xp displays all ~1050 directory entries too.

it seems there is an problem in the communication process between the original philips firmware and xp
possible there are different ways? so my old risc os computer use an old stable way while xp using a faster one with this error.

hope my experience can help to decide to install the excellent fvdw-sl firmware version 14-0
