Can't connect to spd8020 at all

attached a copy of the original httpd.conf file of the spd8020 with Philips firmware

It seems you samba server is still working, so you should be able to access the shared folder "public"
Unpack the file in zip archive and put it in this shared folder and access the spd8020 with putty
to copy the file use
Code: Select all
cp /share/1000/public/httpd.conf /etc/httpd.conf

And try again to start the web server
Of course the question is if this is the only file that has a problem, maybe the hard disk has some bad sectors after 6 years of operation
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Its a strange error message

/etc/httpd.conf:511: <?xpacket> was not closed.

<?xpacket> is not in the httpd.conf file it is usually in jpg files. In the firmware it is in files like
logolar.jpp and logosmall.jpg (this is a Marvell logo and as far is I know not used in any script)
There is also a a file called warning32.jpg need to check if that is used in the webinterface

Hello fvdw,

Sorry for the late response. There was no e-mail to indicate your post and when checking the posts I was not aware there was a page 2 added. Only this morning I noticed.

Indeed the folde "public" is accessable and all data can be used, reading and writing. The only reason for opening the control is to modify the settings for upnp.

I copied the file to public and tried to copy it further. See the listing.

you need to reboot the spd8020 or access the spd8020 with putty

and use the command
Code: Select all
/usr/bin/httpd -f httpd.conf -d /etc

To see if the web server is starting now
I would the second option as it directly gives info if the file is now ok or not

Congratulations! you've done it. And thank you for your time.

The response in putty is:
# /usr/bin/httpd -f httpd.conf -d /etc
WARNING: detected MinSpareServers set to non-positive.
Resetting to 1 to avoid almost certain Apache failure.
Please read the documentation.
#
But I am in the control page.

I'll try to do the setting modification and let you know the finalk results.

I am glad to read that it solved your problem :-D
This message is normal in the Philips firmware, the apache server adjust this setting to prevent a problem, no need to do anything ;)

The opening popup for user and password looks different now but works with no problem (with the factory settings admin and admin, so probably resetted) Most of the settings are manageable now. The media device was down but after resetting it is running. When setting the file sharing and pressing "accept" it comes with: "The requested URL /share_folders_m.htm was not found on this server."
I do not understand it but it's no problem because it's in default which is sharing.
The firmware is 1.2.9.42. Do you think I should download the latest version via general setup? If yes, which version is best?

Thanks again.

seems more files are damaged on the hard disk, you could try to upgrade ot our firmware. In principle 14-0 should be ok, you can use the Philips firmware upgrade menu and load our file. However it has been a long time since the time we used the Philips software. I don't know if there is anyone that bhas done the upgrade directly from Philips to our 14-0 version, but I do not see a reason why it should work.
There is one remark. In gernamny some spd8020 were found with small system partions, tose are not ale to load our software.
If you have such a device can be check by logging in via Putty and five the command
Code: Select all
fdisk -l /dev/sda

It should list the partition table of the disk. if the end cylinder of partiton one is 32 and of partion 2 is 64 it should be ok

Now I learned that sda is equivalent for cylinder. Indeed partition 1 ends 32 and partition 2 at 64.
In the "Firmware and Howto guides downloads" section I found the 14-0 version and further instructions. It say unzip in any location; is that a location on de NAS or my computer? Just to be sure: do I have to install version 10-x first or is that not necessary for the Philips version?

It is any location on your PC and there is no need to upgrade to 10.0 first
