You mean that small button on the mainboard? It doesn't do anything. No matter if I press it short or long.

there is no power button on wd mycoud gen 1, the button on the back is reset button used by WD to reset firmware to efault settings

I will be away a coming 3 days for business travel

@matt_max what was using samba the file transfer speed using wd firmware?

(ps again do not try to use brightness and blink entries in the led driver...only color works and off , see my earlier remark)

yes I know that. The previous tests were to check if my changes are ok. For these options there is a workaround to avoid to use them when the user tries to change their value. Of course a read access is still available but it is useless.

I'm afraid I do not know what you mean :scratch I have never used or tested speed on original wd firmware.

Hi matt_max, could you connect your wd disk and do that test?

we are working on some adaptations and I am trying to compile a 3.19 kernel which will allow using smb2 and 3 which might improve transfer speeds when using samba
The 3.19 kernel is running but the network driver fails to bring the ethernet port online. As longs as that is the case the kernel is useless.
Now this comcerto based board use a very complicated network driver not available in mainline linux which makes it very difficult to solve this issue. But I will keep trying for a while. For the moment we are stuck with kernel 3.2 and smb1

Ok. I've connected my original disc to nas and done some tests: 1 file (c.a. 800MB) was copied with transfer between 50-67 MB/s and using ftp 25 MB/s.
@fvdw I see that you try to ask WD community - maybe they will help us.

Ok when using samba, was there a difference in speed when writing the file to the nas and reading from the nas using windows explorer. ? Typically copying a file from nas to PC is much faster then the other way around.

You seems to get much higher transfer speeds when using samba then I got. On ftp I got similar results. :scratch

I do not know if standard wd firmware is using smb1, 2 or 3. How can I check this? There is no option in gui.
That are my results - copying file to nas:
$matches[2]

and from nas to local disc:
