Indeed you need a patch, we did not make it for x86 platform as it is not official released.
This is more the field of Jocko but I made a temporary patch which should make it work.
Attached the patch, put it in the fvdw shared folder.
Open web interface and choose in the firmware update menu the option upload patch
Select the file you have put in the fvdw share
Use as control code: unzip
The patch should install now.

If you have entered your plugout credentials in the web interface system mangement>setup>firmware interface you should now be able to install samba4.
Note after install samba 4 the nas will reboot. Samba4 is installed but in the webinterface it will not show the version number. Jocko will have to have a look at that but samba4 should run fine.

Hello,

fvdw i think you posted a ARM zip and not the X86 :

./smbd: line 1: syntax error: unexpected word (expecting ")")

Seeing it as a script and not an exutable ;-)

huh,
The zip archive should be able to extract on any platform it uses the unzip command on the nas also the installation of the patch is independent on platform it use the tar command on the the nas. smbd is not part of the patch but part of samba so I guess you get this error when trying to start samba.
I tested it on on my virtual machine running fvdw-sl-i686 and patch installed without problem and also samba 4 was possible to download and to start (reboot).
One thing I cannot revert back to samba 3 but that is a bug Jocko will need to solve as mentioned earlier.

Looks more likely you have downloaded a wrong samba version that cannot not run on a x86 32 bits kernel, probably due to an error in the defined platform.
I did some checks and indeed this is the case my previous patch contained some files lacking support for x86_32 platform resulting that the platform detection is wrong and also some script missed x6_32 support.

I attached a new patch that will replace these files by correct ones, it also contains samba 4 for x86_32 platform. It will overwrite the existing samba 4 files.
After installing the patch reboot your nas and everything should be fine.

control code for installing the patch is again: unzip

:doh That is because we messed up platfom settings, it is know unknown and the uploading script will refuse to accept

lets do it manually
Unpack the the attached zip archive, you will find a file with name fvdw-sl-18.2-fvdw-sl-18-2-x86-repair-1-20dec2024.tar
Put in the fvdw shared folder.
Connect via ssh and give this command to unpack it

Code: Select all
tar -xvf /direct-usb/fvdw/fvdw-sl-18.2-fvdw-sl-18-2-x86-repair-1-20dec2024.tar -C /

be sure to use a a capital -C in this command

After extraction reboot giving the command on the command line
Code: Select all
reboot

Note Restart via web interface won't work as platform is unknown

Sorry for the inconvenience but it is a beta version
