Stuck on dashboard screen after Factory Reset

Hi,
I have an old d2 network V2K [U-Boot 1.1.4 (Dec 21 2009 - 16:55:45) Marvell version: 3.4.16 LaCie 1.3.9 ]
I could not remember password, do not care about data, so i tried a bit of simple hacking..
I removed disk, mounted in linux, modified an init script to start sshd and overwrite the shadow file with a modified shadow file with 'known' passwords.
I was then able to ssh from my laptop into the unit but had no luck permanently resetting root/admin or Administrator passwords for the web interface.

I gave up and did a factory reset. Now when I browse to the unit I land on the dashboard page where I can enter 'new' admin password and configure ntp. However nothing happens when I click Finish.

I would ideally like to update firmware.. I am having trouble finding detailed instructions/steps on how to do this.
I was going to pull out disk and put in a new blank disk to tinker with.

Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. :-D
