if you do not run a safe remove the share settings are deleted and can be restored after plugging again the disk.

To restore the share, you just need to create again the share (data stored in it are still here)

About disk testing, it seems the kernel version does not allow the command?

Yes,it just seems like that.
Do I have to do other tests?

Yes you can run a smart test on the disk :
- use the SMART menu and run a "Long self test". This will take ~ 2 hours
