Raspberry Pi Model B+

Raspberry Pi Model B+

Postby Haribo » Tue Jul 15, 2014 6:57 am

The Raspberry Pi foundation just released an update to the Model B.

And the changes makes this firmware even more interesting.
The new model has 4 USB ports. They are still on the same bus as the Ethernet but they have more power now. Up to 1.2 Amps can be delivered to the ports with a good PSU (2A).

That means, it should now be able to power USB HDDs and devices that need more power.

Also it has a much better layout and now supports Micro SD.
And it uses less power, when not powering a lot of devices of course.

It should be 100% backwards compatible with the Model B. Same CPU, memory and so on.

Also same low price as Model B.

Hello fvdw,

thank you for this Information.
My SPD8020 plus Twonky Server running is very slow in response to a command from my TV and the Video Streaming is sometimes broken.

I just thinking about to buy a Raspi B+.
But on the other hand if I could put your Raspi FW 15.3 on a Cubitruck (Cubiboard 3) there is much more power behind and a Gbits Lan also.

pls. see link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubieboard

Do you have any ideas if this could work?

Thank you

Hello fvdw,

thank you for the answer. I was on holydays, sorry for the delay.

A Cubitruck has been not yet ordered, but it looks good for me.

At the Moment I am doing some investigations and found a German link:

http://stefanius.de/neues-homenas-v3-0- ... cubietruck

Is this helpful for you?

there seems to be support for the cubieboard in the mainline linux kernel, meaning we can compile a kernel that is suitable. The question is if the all the binaries compile for arm5v ar e compatible with this cpu (arm7). From what i read I conclude yes, an arm7 can run code compile for arm5 just fine.

Only thing needed is to find out how the boot process is and then I see no reason why it won't work

Hello fvdw,

I have ordered.
Next week it should be here.

Then let us start, if you like with your assistance.

Hello fvdw,
I received my Cubitruck now. Original it was running with a Android 4.2 on the on the 2 GB NAND .
I have tried some different Images on the SD card (8 GB) and every time after removal of the SD Card the booting of the Android from NAND have been corrupt. But this is an other Problem.
Unfortunately when I have used your Pi Image there was now Action from the Cubitruck.
I have it installed on the SD card by Win32DiskImager, but nothing happened when I put it in the Card Slot.
I think something is missing during the boot process from the SD card. I this case the installation will not start.
When I have used the "http://stefanius.de/neues-homenas-v3-0-dual-sd-card-image-fuer-cubieboard-2-und-cubietruck" it was running during the Trial.
But I was waiting for your solution.
Any ideas?
Thank you
