Big5 vs1 lacie2.2.8 to new firmware new drives

Postby lesman2001 » Wed Jun 21, 2023 12:38 pm

I have a Lacie Big5 vs1 orion NAS controller that worked with 2.2.8 firmware (old stuff). The hard drives needed replacing since drive 1 went out. I replaced all the drives with 2tb drives but the box just flashes rapid red in the front and red on the drive status. I found your forum and tried to download the console and revive the box. downloaded the console and firmware 18-1-v2.
I can get the console to connect and it will load the kernel. I use the firmware upgrade to load onto hard drive and it completes with reboot -f command at end. After reboot, box just flashes blue on the front and back. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
here is the installer log

There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
(e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

Seems it goes wrong here
Code: Select all
.....
This filesystem will be automatically checked every 34 mounts or
180 days, whichever comes first. Use tune2fs -c or -i to override.
formatting sda7 succeeded
mounting partition succeeded
extracting firmware base files

....m

The base firmware archive seems to corrupt and the files are not installed. I suggest you repeat the install. If it gails again to extract the archive download the install package again.

When I extract the rar files, I put them in the same folder but it always ask me to overwrite existing files. Do all 5 rar extracts go into the single folder as described or is there a certain way these files get placed? Also on the firmware, do I do a hard drive load of firmware or do I use the sda7 selection from the firmware menus?

It was my fault. Everything loaded up fine this last time. I was using the files in the forum for the 18-1 as earlier noted. I did have a good download but I was not familiar with the rar multiple files extraction process. Rookie mistake. Once I extracted the complete series in a single command (selected all files then extracted), the folder was correctly formatted. The console loaded the firmware with no errors and the web interface was listed in my dhcp server pool after the reboot. I lost remote connection so I haven't been able to carry the project farther but will tonight.
I may have some other questions but with the web interface being available, I have at least loaded the firmware correctly.

Where can I find the firmware download for 18.2? I have tried to patch 18.1 so the automatic update will work but it keeps throwing error.

This means you failed to install the patch. Error 134 is a code error returned by the tar command. So I assume your patch file is also corrupted. Then download it again.

I have downloaded it 5 times from the site. each time fails the same. Created a shared fvdw. Moved zip file directly over into to share. I even made a donation in hopes the gesture would open up new file downloads but alas, I still cannot find the 18.2 or 18.3 firmware or make any patch work. I have reloaded the firmware multiple times. Cleaned the drive 1 off to new and started fresh, no other drives in enclosure to make sure the drive 1 gets the firmware. It still acts the same.
Where can I get the latest firmware in a zipped file that I can load through fconsole? Is there a download place? A repository that can be accessed?
I am at my wits end with this.

Hi

Sorry for the inconvenience.

You can't because it does not exist (the firmware downloads directly several files to perform this upgrade)

We can deepen with you to understand why you have this issue. So open a shell window (or use directly the web console menu from the fw web-interface), and enable the debug mode
Code: Select all
debugon
Then reload "upload patch" menu and try again to install the patch.

Return to the Web console, and run
Code: Select all
debugoff
cp /etc/patch_log /direct-usb/fvdw
cp /var/log/messages /direct-usb/fvdw

Then post both files (patch_log and messages available now from the share fvdw)
