No, if sda completely fails than the nas won't boot as it cannot load the firmware. In such an event you will need to install the firmware again on sda first. If disk is not broken but firmware is corrupt on sda than a repair is possible using the standalone kernel and fvdw-sl console. In case nas boots but sda8 partition (part of raid5) cannot be added to the array a repair can be attempted by initializing the disk.If that doesn't solve it and disk must he replaced a new install of the firmware on a new disk may be required.
