Change RAID 0 to RAID 5 on 5Big1

Change RAID 0 to RAID 5 on 5Big1

Postby Kippara » Wed Jul 15, 2020 12:36 am

I have a RAID 0 5Big1 NAS. Is it possible to change it to a RAID 5.

Raid is expertise of Jocko so hopefully he will respond. But in principle it should be possible, need to check and I will come back later

It is now 3 days since I set up RAID 0 on my 5Big1 NAS and the disk lights on the back of the box are sequentially changing from blue to red to blue to red every 3 seconds. Is this normal? If not what could cause this and how do I fix it?

Hi

AFAIK, you can not convert raid0 to raid5 without loosing data

About LED behaviour, it is a known issue with version 18.2 (or older). The firmware fails to detect rightly the status on a raid0.

To fix it you have to download the file : https://plugout.net/firm_version/fvdw-sl-18-2-raid-led-fix-29jan2020.tgz
Then store it on a share (I assume fvdw) and run the command from shell window
Code: Select all
tar -xf /direct-usb/fvdw/fvdw-sl-18-2-raid-led-fix-29jan2020.tgz -C /

Reboot the nas and red led should be off

Applied the patch, rebooted and now have a solid blue light with solid blue on each disk. Backed up to another NAS, formatted the disks and configured a RAID 5-ext4 on the array. Restored data and the NAS is working well. Thanks for the help. I do have one problem though and that is setting up notifications. I use smtp.office365.com server on port 587 with TLS and keep getting error!(1) and error!(104). Could you tell me what these error codes mean?

After further investigation the notifications issue should be a new post. see Notifications setup problem topic.

Further to the setup of RAID5 when I select Shutdown or Restart, connectivity to the 5Big is lost but the 5Big does not power down and the power switch on the back of the 5Big has no effect. The only way to power off the 5Big is to pull the power plug out which obviousely is not the preferred option. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix for this?
