Release notes version fvdw-sl 12-1 25 May 2012

12.1.1 New feature: "rename shares"
This feature enables you to rename a share you have created. Some technical shares like "fvdw", "minidlna" and so on can not be renamed. This to prevent that the applications stop working

12.1.2 Upgrade german dictionaries
With a big thank you to a member from Germany. Also the web explorer application has now a German translation

12.1.3 several new binaries shared object libraries added for future applications
- libgd, libgdm, libgif, libgomp, libsgutils

12.1.4 terminal vt100 files added

12.1.5 support added in php for simplexml (extension)

12.1.6 Preparations included to make installation of add ons possible
This adaptation enables us to install applications as "add on" to the firmware. It concerns packages that are too big to include in the firmware file and also do not fit in the system partition. In future releases they can be downloaded separately and installed as add on.
Already prepared add ons are:
- perl 5.14.2 (specially modified to make Logitech media server run with our firmware)
- Logitech Media Server 7.8.0
- Mysql 5.1.37

12.1.7 New feature: Installation of Logitech Media Server (LMS) as add-on (Only for nwsp2 and isp1)
Logitech Media Server can be installed as add-on (version 7.8.0) including perl (version 5.14.2). You need to use the specially prepared packages for our firmware (standard version from Logitech do not work because of dependency issue). These LMS and perl add-ons can be downloaded and must be installed separately before you can use the server. They are not included in the firmware files. The web interface has a new menu to install and control LMS. It will only be visible on the nwsp2 and isp1.
The reason why it is not supported on the spd8020 and nwsp1 is that the cpu load and RAM needs for this server are too much for those devices.
This add-on is tested successfully on our systems but as we do not have a Logitech hardware player we cannot test it fully.
PS LMS 7-8-0 has also a dlna media server on board so any uPNP dlna compatible client should be able to access it (for instance your TV)
Hopefully some volunteers will try it out and give feedback.


12.1.8 Bug fixes
Following bugs are fixed in this release:
- all versions: iTunes 10.x not possible to connect to Firefly server, Firefly is adapted and now can be found by iTunes 10.x and can be used.
- fvdw-sl-12-0: missing firmware upgrade menu in firmware nwsp1 and isp1 in early release of 12-0. The menus are now present again.
- fvdw-sl 9 to 12-0:When you try to get a ssh access with a remote host by using the ssh client 'dbclient', the connection is refused if the rsa key of the remote host has changed. This problem is solved in this release by adding possibility to clear the database of known hosts.
- fvdw-sl-12-0: when downgrading from 12-0 to an earlier version the NAS will become inaccessible in case not compatible elements introduced in version 12-0 are present in the NAS database. (web-explorer and nfs-ip's). The firmware upgrade scripts are adapted and will now remove incompatible tags from the database when up-or downgrading the firmware.

vpn functionality is in preparation as well. But this will not be added in version 12-1 as it requires new kernels.
For the nwsp2 we already have an working kernel that support vpn but for the other boxes this has still to be done.
Also we will try to incorporated GPT partition support in the nwsp2 kernel. This will enble us on the nwsp2 lite to use of disks bigger then 2.2 TB partioned with GPT structure. On the nwsp2 classic this will still not be possible as the boot loader of the nwsp2 doesn't support GPT yet while the nwsp2 lite seems to support it.
