Lacie 2Big Network vs1

Lacie 2Big Network vs1

Postby uelpenich » Thu Oct 10, 2013 5:41 pm

I got a diskless Lacie 2Big Network vs1 for a low price.
Is it possible to get FVDW-SL firmware running on this device? Seeing the progress with other big network vs2 devices I hope you can help me.

Thanks
Werner

no problem, I will prepare a trial kernel for you to see if we can get it working. Trial kernel will be sent by pm to avoid that not finished kernel get ditributed in the world. When we have a working kernel it will be published for others in the download forum.
Please post you experiences with trying to get the trial kernel running here.
First I will sent you a standalone kernel that we will try to get running with the fvdw-sl console. If that works installation of the firmware becomes much easier. Also testing trial kernels is easier as we don't need to take the disk out every time to write a kernel

(I moved the topic to "development", when we have a working solution the 5big1 will get its own sub forum

thanks for testing Uelpenich, that means we can add the 2big1 to the supported device including install via fvdw-sl console because the standalone kernel is needed for that.

I will make a package and open a separate forum for the 2big1

I succeeded in installing the FVDW firmware (the manual way using a gparted Linux system), and it works.

There are still some minor things like power LED and power-off switch what is no problem for me.

I hope that RAID will work with the next firmware version 16.

Thank you for the excellent support.

Checking out the power-on / shut-down / Stand-by WOL behavior I mentioned that after Stand-by WOL the hard disk was still spinning.
I think it is a good idea to send a spin-down command (if the spin-down guard is activated) to the hard disks before switching to the WOL state.

the wol daemon sent such command to the hdd, it seems for mutiple disk system it is not enough asit is now. I also see this behavior on my 5big2, disk not spinning down in WOL state. So that is a bug that needs to be looked at

I ran first trials to load the kernel on my new device with no success.

Some questions: What sequence to run exactly with FVDW-SL console?
Is the first Step External kernel, load and start with the standalone kernel? Because the install or write firmware functions or the Standalone kernel load and start cause a "standalone function returned false" info.

Other question if we do not succeed this way: The original lacie software is still running but access is password protected. If I uninstall the disks and connect it to a linux machine, is there a way to delete or reset the password by modding a file? The normal way by a sequnece of keypresses does not work because the blue LED is broken.
