I want to know if i can put an 8Tb HDD inside the white enclosure or 4Tb...
Really the question is about the maximum HDD Size.

As far as I read on the internet when using ext4 as file system and gpt partition table the max file size will be 16TB for linux kernels from 2.6. x onwards. So I guess using a 12TB disk should be possible. But I never tried it myself so I might be wrong.

I think understand what's happened.
Formatting a big partition requires many resources. As fvdw-sl console runs an OS over the ram, I assume there was not enough resources when formatting is running.
So you need to reset the disk from the firmware webinterface: disk setup menu and click on the reset link.
After running the setup disk job, you need to create at least one share.
Note: I already formatted a big partition on my 5big2 (11TB) directly from the webinterface. So you should succeed

Return to Lacie cloudbox (white casing)
