Hi

today I tried to backup one of my PCs. I use to do that with GoodSync application
I mentioned that my NAS was stuck after a while. I couldn't access him with windows explorer neither with web browser.
I had to power off and on so to can access him.
I think I had this problem a long time ago and if I am right problem was Jumbo Frame. The right setup was OFF (1500).
Now with 'fvdw' firmware I cannot see any this setting

The ethernet driver use standard MTU size (1500 bytes). You could use ifconfig command to change it but after reboot you will have to set it again. You could use a cron task for that. But I recommend not to use jumbo frame size, first because they will not speed up transfer and the reliability of ethernet traffic is affected.

PS I recently transferred 700 GB of data to 2bignas using rsync without any issue. I have no experience with the backup program you mentioned.

Look.
My computer has 2 hard disks. Disk 'C' has operating system (Windows 7) and disk 'D' contains my documents (.doc, .xls, .pdf, .cdr, .dwg, jpg, .tif etc files)
First I tried to backup my documents (disk 'D'). Everything was ok and backup ended without any problem.
So after that I tried to backup disk 'C'. The way that 'goodsync' works is like that : First analyses (reads) source and destination disks and compares them, then creates new folders to destination disk and at last copy one-by-one file from source (disk 'C') to destination (NAS).
So during creation new folders my NAS stuck 2-3 minutes from beginning. I thought that was by mistake. Restart my computer and my NAS and tried again but after creating about 10-15 folders stuck again.
After that I tried with another windows computer but had the same problem.
I use goodsync for at least 10 years to backup my 5 windows computers to 3 NAS (2 WD myCloud and 1 Lacie 2big) without any problem so I'm afraid that something goes wrong with new firmware

This looks similar as the way total commander works. I use that frequently to synchronize directories on pc and nas. I never experienced issues that you describe. Because I can not reproduce your issue it is impossible to find out what the cause is. I will try to get goodsync trial and do some tests.
Question did you upgrade samba to version 4?

Yes you can. So you made a backup via smb protocol ? and surely better in this case to use samba4 version instead of samba3 because you may use smb2 or smb3 protocol. With samba3 only smb1 protocol is available.
