2Big Network 2, Hard disk 2 failed

Postby manelppa » Sun Jun 04, 2017 8:44 pm

Dear all,

After having solved about "how to install fresh Hard disk" onto Nas LaCie 2Big vs2 and having used for several month, suddenly one of the hard disk (Disk 2) started to fail. Then the Dashboard confirmed the RAID1 was downgraded.
After confirming to repair (using Dashboard features), a message appeared to confirm the repair could not be succes, the Disk 2 has a problem.

Because the NAS was set to RAID 1, I removed the Disk 2, initialized in FAT32 and put it back into the NAS.
Unfortunatelly, now the NAS doesn't restart any more (I totally forgot the NAS 2Big 2 requires 2 identical Linux Partition formated Hard disk with the Firmware installed into.

I really feel desperate and would like to recover (at least) the stored data onto Disk 1.
Can some tell me how I can recover from the situation, how can I recover the Data stored in Disk 1, etc.

All help will be sooooo welcome :-)
Regards to all

Hi manelppa

It is not clear for me. Do you use Lacie firmware or fvdw-sl ?

Anyhow, with a raid1, you should be able to recover your data from disk1.

Do you try to start the NAS with only the disk1 ?

Hello Jocko,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
I'm using LaCie firmware 2.2.12.2 on a 2Big Network 2

The LaCie don't boot with only Disk 1 (which is supposed to be the correct one).
When I turn ON, here are the steps :
First, the front led blinks for few seconds and become fix
then the Hard disk starts running
then the front blue LED starts blinking without stopping
The rear Hard disk led is fixed blue

The LaCie assistant see nothing...

That's only what I got :-(

Dear Jocko,
I've worked a little more (tonight) to make sure about the Disk n°1 which contains my data.
I connected the Disk n°1 into Ubuntu Session. The tool "Disk"s can see the partitions and the amount of data stored (which seems to be positive).
if I use the cmd "fdisk /dev/sdc", fdisk list all the partitions.
Moreover, the tool "Disks" can view the RAID partitions and mention "ARRY IS DEGRADED --1 disk is missing"

The questions are :
1) can I sector copy the Disk1 onto the blank Disk2 using HD duplicator and re-install into NAS LaCIe ?
2) can I make an image copy of the Disk1 for additional backup
3) How can I mount the Disk1 and see the DATA (knowing the DATA are from Mac)
4) if I stop the Raid, what happens ?

Thanks in advance for all your help
Regards

Hi Iamola

Please currently do not play with disk1

What I suggest you:
- use fvdw-sl console
- create again the partition table on disk2 according to disk1
- include each disk2's partition in the related raid1 set on disk1 (it is why you got information Array degraded)

then reboot the nas

First step you need to install fvdw-sl console on a Windows laptop
(see the topic: https://plugout/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1271)

Try the action load a standalone kernel (select the kirkwood version) and see if you get a telnet access.

Hello Jocko,
Thanks a lot for your suggestions; After having tested many things, the NAS is still not starting (I took care about the Disk 1). I've even tried to duplicate the HD1 with a Hard Disk Duplicator tool (hardware) without any success.
The NAS is still starting, blue led blinks few seconds and become fixe. After 10-15 seconds, the blue led blinks undefinitely and the Led of the 2 disks are fixex blue.

After having discussed a little with Frans, he also suggest to use the consol fw... Hope to download the tool and get "read me" because I'm not very used to this kind of operation...
Anyway, so kind regards for your great support;

Kind regards,
Renaud F.

Hi manelppa,

I am sorry but I made an error on the link:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1271

I repeat to leave quiet currently the disk1 (if you lose its array super block, it willl be much much hard to restore the firmware)

For later step, what is the disk size on your 2big2

Hi Frans,
I agree, keep quiet the Disk 1.
Ok, I've downloaded all about FVDW console. Could you please let me know the procedure to RECOVER hard disk from NAS, which I connect, etc.
That would be very nice.

Kind regards,
Renaud F.

Sorry, I forgot your question. My disks size are 2Tb.
Additional questions. When you advise me to keep quiet the disk1 : keeping the 2 disks inside the NAS and trying to reset to factory settings does it impact your advice ? I've tried this without any success :
- Reset to factory settings by power ON + front button until red light flashes
- Recover procedure from LaCie Network Assitant (check attached screen shot)

Thanks in advance for your advices
