Installing firmware 2x 3Tb fresh disks (2Big 2)

Hi,

I had previously 2x 1Tb disks inside 2Big 2. Everything worked fine. (Capsule 2.2.10.1 updated) However I'd like to upgrade system to 2x 3Tb empty disks from beginning. (2x Seagate ST3000DM001 3TB)

Earlier I have been able to configure the system successfully with nas-central's tutorial nas-certal.org's http://lacie.nas-central.org/wiki/Installing_firmware_on_fresh_disks_%282Big_2%29. The tutorial guides to use MBR +FDISK. Configuring the system under <2Tb disks is rather easy, but with >3Tb disks partitioning needs to be created in GPT format. I have been trying to figure out correct method from different forum sources, howto reconfigure my 2Big 2 again, but with no luck.

Would someone kindly post here clear & simple partition + firmware install guide how to get my Lacie back running.

(1) do you want to install the lacie firmware ?

(2) Does your bootloader support GPT
note that your bootloader must support gpt partition tables, if you have u-boot access (via serial port or usinig fvdw-sl console) you can check this by using printenv command and see if the parameter cap=gpt,lba64 is present. If it is not present then your 2big2 will not be able to boot with disks having gpt partition table.

(3) you could use our fvdw-sl console and load the standalone kernel and (GPT) partition your disks using gdisk

Sorry about delay in answering! I had difficulties to install fvdw-sl to my 2big2, but the latest update solved my problems. However I'd like to go back to original Lacie firmware.

1. Yes, I'd like install Original lacie firmware back to my 2big2

2. Yes the hardware bootloader supports GPT, I had successfull installation with the latest fvdw-sl console. Please see the current partition info here: http://i.imgur.com/Fw4SvGe.png

3. Yes, everything works fine now, however i need partition model and instructions and gdisk guide, howto reinstall Original Lacie firmware back to 3tb disks.

I have difficulties to partition and restore 3tb disks to my 2big2. Would be nice to have instructions similar for 3tb disks like here: http://lacie.nas-central.org/wiki/Insta ... 82Big_2%29. Lacie original firmware also needs RAID1 or RAID5 configuration for it's installation. Please see the current 2big2 project status here: http://i.imgur.com/Fw4SvGe.png

Don't try to reuse the fvdw-sl partitions table, the first dd command in this howto will erase it and will restore some lacie partitions but not all. You need to create the others with fdisk command.

Hi,

thanks for help. :) However my disks are 3Tb and the guide has 2Tb disk partition model.
Where to find partition model (sample of sector sizes) for 3Tb disks? How about using Gdisk with 3Tb disks?
If I have understood correctly fdisk is not good tool for disks ovet 2Tb.

Indeed with a 3TB disk you can not use fdisk.
