no ip address, unable to access the NAS

no ip address, unable to access the NAS

Postby danilomag » Fri Jun 23, 2023 12:57 pm

hello everyone,
I was given a lacie 5big as a gift. I checked the capacitors and some were swollen so I replaced them.
When I turn it on all the hard drives start, the rear leds are blue, the front led flashes blue. Whether I connect it to the modem or the pc is not assigned an IP address and I cannot log in.
I would like to try to connect a serial cable to understand what happens during boot, but I don't know where to find TX,RX and GND.
I also tried to do a reset, holding down the front button during boot, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
any suggestions?

What firmware is on the device? You could try to load the fvdw-sl standalone kernel using fvdw-sl console.

I have no idea what firmware version it has. I have never been able to log in.
I replaced the first hard drive because it didn't work, now the rear lights are all blue, except for the first drive.
I tried with the console, but no device is detected, both if I connect the NAS to the modem and if I connect it to the PC.

Then probably lacie firmware is on the device.
Suggest you teplace it by fvd-sl. Read this topic how to to do that https://plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3086#p30199

I tried several times to load the firmware, but I always get telnet time-out.
i connected the nas with the cable to the pc, with the nas off i selected the firmware, as soon as u-boot waiting appears i turn on the nas. but nothing.
the only writing that appears is the one in the screenshot

So there is akernel uploaded. If telnet doesn't connect it most likely mean that a wrong kernel was selected for the device. Are you sure that you have a 5big1 and a 5big2?.
If I remember well we had two versions of a 5big1 that need a different kernel because of location of uboot in memory. You can select in the installer program two version select the other one and try again.

Sorry I mixed 2big1 with 5big1, 5big1 has only one standalone kernel.
In the picture you posted it mentions that UIMAGE-26394-5BIG1-43-standalone is uploaded.

That is strange as the last versions of the fvdw-sl console package contains UIMAGE-26394-5BIG1-45-standalone.
Which fvdw-sl console package are you using?

I also tried with the fvdw-sl 18-1 version.
In version 18 there is firmware UIMAGE-26394-5BIG1-43-standalone and UIMAGE-3142-5BIG1-11. I tried both but nothing changed.
Also windows always says "unidentified network"

In 18-1 there is UIMAGE-26394-5BIG1-45-standalone.
Seems you still use 16-1 fvdw-sl console.

And again are you sure you have a 5big1?
