Yes wpa_supplicant seems to be responsible.

When I remove the wpa_supplicant call from rcS it spins down and vice versa.
This is even when I have no log file option in wpa_supplicant call. There is no log in /var/log/.. as the default logging place.

So wpa_supplicant must do something else periodically with disc access, but what?

Edit: Gave it a liitle more time, then it spun down even with wpa_suuplicant.

So the final result is: Just do not log with wpa_supplicant.
