Well I guess no mater what firmware I put, I run into a dead end at the telnet part...

I'm still getting no response from telnet, even with the disk1 out... If I scan my network for active ip's, should I be able to see it? because it does not show on my router table as a working ip...

any other ideas?

it must work
yes if your router has a dhcp server it should give the nas an dynamic ip when it runs the standalone kernel. This besides the two static ones as mentioned earlier.

What the set up of your lan? what pool of ip's does it use and which subset mask ?
and please describe what you did step by step and what you observe in the fvdw-sl console window.
Please Post a picture of backside of your 5big2

I will send you another standalone kernel by pm this evening that you can try

I made a little demo for you to show how it works
It is important that you follow the instructions as mentioned for laoding and starting the standalone kernel. So do not switch on the 5big2 to early...

I have a question that might be the reason of all the trouble, does the NAS has to be connected on the ethernet port 1? or it can be connected in the port 2?
because my nas has a bad port 1 so we only use port 2...

:pound you could have told that earlier
yep thats the reason, the standalone kernel uses eth0 which is port 1

whats wrong with that port 1 ?

well I can make a dedicated standalone kernel that brings up eth1 instead of eth0
ps Our firmware also needs to be adapted to bring up eth1 instead of eth0 as default. Jocko has done some work there
