Note: it is not a diskless version, so you will need to install manually the firmware on the disks

Is "Instruction to add additional disks to 5big and 2big vers 1 or 2... Version 04 oct 2015" the correct way to do this?
(viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1271#p9474)

If so, first and last cylinders are specified for fdisk in paragraph 3.1,
while gdisk will ask for sectors.

I thought you wanted to install Lacie firmware. So with your 5big2 version you have to do it manually.

But if you want to use our firmware :-D , you can use fvdw-sl console to install the firmware on the system disk and currently format manually the other disks by following this tuto

To use LaCie firmware:
should all disks be formatted like sda but without system files?
I mean without #7 and #8 partition backups and Lacie Kernel image for partition #6.

Or all should be done identically to the first disk (sda)?

I think you need to read the topics with more attention...
fvdw-sl firmware <> Lacie firmware

And of course fvdw-sl console format the disk only for fvdw-sl firmware and not at all for Lacie firmware! Same thing for the tuto to prepare the additional disks.

For Lacie firmware, fvdw-sl console can be used only to have a root access on the NAS
I think you should look at the relevant forum on http://forum.nas-central.org
