mainboard fix

Re: mainboard fix

Thank you @Jocko - problem with update is solved now.

Now lets get back to original problem. AFAIS when I click on System Management -> Shutdown/Restart -> NAS Shutdown my Lacie cannot "wake up". When I disconnect power cord and connect it back nothing happens. Network led lights start blinking same as blue case light but disc do not start and therefore I cannot log in or even find my device in my network.
One more thing - power button on the case do not working. I can press it but this does nothing - turn on/turn off/restart absolutely no reaction.

The power button is not supported yet.
What do you see on serial interface when you use shutdown in the webinterface and what do you see when power on the nas after using shutdown of the web interface?

When you manage to get it running again, login using ssh client and on the command line give this command
Code: Select all
poweroff

Do you notice different output on serial interface and is the nas now continuing boot when powering on again?

Nice !
But now you have to install the patch for version 18.2, so that the firmware connects to our site rightly https://plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3149#p35893(fvdw-sl-18.2-patch03-03aug2021.zip)

Then when I disconnect power and connect it back (without serial port connected) lights turn on and nothing else. But if I connect serial port and do the power reconnection - everything starts as usual.

Second strange behavior: I'm not able to reinstall fvdw. When I turn on FVDW console and click on Action->Install fvdw-sl firmware, select proper kernel (UIMAGE-3136-ISP1-14-standalone) then u-boot console appears and then I turn on NAS but I can wait forever to connection. There is only waiting for u-boot.. message.

Third thing: even if I was able to update to 18.2 version (thx to @Jocko) I cannot install Transmission server:
Fail: can not retrieve the package, -99

Small update: after applying patch fvdw-sl-18.2-patch03-03aug2021 I was able to install Transmission server - thank you @Jocko.

I see nothing strange in the output.
So why it doesn't boot without serial port connected is a mystery. Only thing I can think on is that the serial port grounds the mainboard via gnd line and that is affecting the boot.
To test remove the rx and tx cable and keep gnd connected and see if it boots

After I remove RX and TX cable and only GND was connected NAS doesn't boot. Whan I connect back RX and TX and hit Enter Marvell>> prompt appears in serial connection window (putty). But boot process doesn't start. I have to disconnect power and connect it back.

P.S. When I run boot command after Marvell>> prompt - system starts normally.

:dontknow seems autoboot fails to continu boot. I do not know why it fails now and not in the past but maybe the nas ethernet port or other hardware is not ready in time before autoboot tries to continue (capacitor issue??). We could try to set the delay value for autoboot to a bigger value then 0 seconds to give nas more time to initialize the hardware.
When you are at the marvell>> prompt give command
Code: Select all
printenv
to see which variables are available and which most likely is the delay value for autoboot. Remark there is a possibility that the delay time is hard coded in uboot. In that case setting the delay to another value will be reset at boot. But we can try.

This is the output form serial console after reboot (failed):
Code: Select all
Marvell>> printenv
bootargs=console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/sda7 ro
bootcmd=if lump 2; then ; else run disk_disk; fi
baudrate=115200
loads_echo=0
kernel_addr=0x400000
boot_disk=disk ${kernel_addr} 1:6
snap_disk=if snapboot 1:9 ${kernel_addr}; then; else run boot_disk; fi
disk_disk=ide reset; run snap_disk; bootm ${kernel_addr};
ethaddr=00:d0:4b:86:df:f3
stdin=serial
stdout=serial
stderr=serial
cpuName=926
CASset=min
enaMonExt=no
enaFlashBuf=yes
enaCpuStream=no
MALLOC_len=4
ethprime=egiga0
bootdelay=3
disaMvPnp=no
overEthAddr=no
usb0Mode=host
usb1Mode=device
ethact=egiga0

Environment size: 558/40956 bytes

I think we should focus on that line: bootcmd=if lump 2; then ; else run disk_disk; fi

P.S. if I run boot next I can see something like this:
Code: Select all
Marvell>> boot
Waiting for LUMP (2)
Using egiga0 device
no lump receive; continuing

Reset IDE:
Marvell Serial ATA Adapter
Intergrated Sata device found
StartChannel

What is LUMP? :dontknow

Lump is a signal received on the ethernet port. The fvdw-sl console uses it to interrupt boot.

What you could try is setting bootdelay to a higher value
At the marvell prompt give these commands
Code: Select all
set bootdelay=5
saveenv

And reboot (command reset at marvell prompt)
And see what happens.
If again stuck at marvell prompt give command printenv to see if bootdelay is still at 5 seconds or reset to 3.

When serial port is connected I have never stuck at Marvell prompt - always go straight to boot process.

I tried to set up bootdelay but that was the output from console:
Code: Select all
Marvell>> set bootdelay=5
Marvell>> saveenv
Saving Environment to Flash...
Error: start and/or end address not on sector boundary
Marvell>>

...and after restart printenv shows that bootdelay is set up to 3.

I think that my Lacie for some reason never receive ide reset signal during early boot stage. For example here:
Code: Select all
bootcmd=if lump 2; then ; else run disk_disk; fi

and all this part
Code: Select all
boot_disk=disk ${kernel_addr} 1:6
snap_disk=if snapboot 1:9 ${kernel_addr}; then; else run boot_disk; fi
disk_disk=ide reset; run snap_disk; bootm ${kernel_addr};
