Can't access my Lacie Internet Space anymore

Can't access my Lacie Internet Space anymore

Postby Hunter13 » Sun Mar 10, 2013 2:03 pm

Greetings everyone,

I'm in a bit of a pickle.
After logging in at HomeLacie.com and trying to give my LIS a steady IP, its no longer accessible.
Explore my HipServ folders doesn't work, and Navigate to my HipServ (www) doesn't work, either.
Accessing my drive thru HomeLacie.com isn't possible anymore: when trying to sign in I get this message from my browser:
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
I've spend like an entire day trying anything to access the drive but no luck.

I'm pretty sure the only way to solve this issue is to reset my LIS to its factory settings, unfortunately I need to be able to access the drive to do this.
When I try the software reset from the HipServ cd, the drive can't be found.
So that means I need to do a hardware reset, which for some reason doesn't seem to exist for the Lacie Internet Space v1.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
NOTE: I really don't want to lose the data stored on the drive!

Thanks in advance.

Good question...
I remember upgrading it once with new firmware after I bought it in July 2009, so I'm guessing it has the latest firmware that Lacie put out for it.
But I don't know for sure. And obviously I can't check it now.

well if it is the lacie firmware I can not help you as I don't know how that is set up.
But maybe another IS1 user has some experience. In worst case you could pull out the dik and connect using a sata/usb connector to a PC running Linux and try to copy the data

Yup, I'm already considering doing just that.
But I'm still holding unto a sliver of hope that someone knows a working hardware reset for the Lacie Internet Space v1.

After searching around yesterday, I already found some basic instructions on what file to edit for a "manual" reset of the settings:
In the boot partition: etc \ sysconfig \ network-scripts \
sudo gedit ICFG-ETH0
If I access that file I should be able to correct the tab settings (IP, subnet, etc) and everything should be fine again.

I've also contacted the Lacie helpdesk, and if they can't help me out, either. I'll just have to bite the bullet, install ubuntu, open the LIS up, get out the HD, and go all Linux on it.

Hmm, Lacie helpdesk wasn't exactly helpful.

Beste,

Nope, I don't think so.

Instead, I took out the hard drive and hooked it up to my PC with Ubuntu running.
Opened ifcfg-eth0 and changed bootproto=static to bootproto=dhcp.
Then put the HD back into the LIS.
And the problem is solved!

Thank you Lacie for not building in something so very obvious as a hardware reset, and then trying to bill me 70+ euros to solve a problem that originated from your very own website (they really should put some kind of a warning before trying to use a static IP).
