we succeeded to compile a new kernel for the internetspace fully compatible with the fvdw-sl firmware
In the forum downlad section a package is added that can be used for installing fvdw-sl firmware on the internet space vs1. With a big thank you to Johan72 for testing the kernel and firmware, thanks to him we can add support for this device. He also adapted the installtion guide for the internetspace
So the text below is no longer valid anymore
rgds fvdw
The lacie internet space has different hardware compared with the lacie network space vs1 or vs2
This means it needs a dedicated linux kernel, a kernel compiled for the network space will not run on the internet space. Currently the fvdw-sl firmware can not be supplied with a dedicated kernel for the internet space, maybe in future it will be added if the mainboard is supported by (vanilla) Linux kernel.
However it appears you can use the fvdw-sl firmware on the internet space in combination with the original Lacie internetspace kernel when you accept some limitations.
Features not needing kernel dependent stuff will work like the samba (file) and ftp server and also the media servers and torrent clients.
Some features like ntfs write support or nfs server won't work as they need kernel dependent stuff
Some user have done it and it this forum you can read their experiences.
To install the fvdw-sl firmware you can use the how-to guide for the networks space vs1 with one change !
Use the Internetspace kernel instead of the nwsp1 kernel.
You can get the the internet space kernel from the original disk of your internet space, it is present in partition sda6. To copy it connect the original disk to a PC running linux using a sate->usb connector and use the command:
- Code: Select all
dd if=/dev/sdb6 of=uImage-internetspace
Note it is assumed in this command that the disk is present as /dev/sdb on the PC running Linux.
Use this kernel instead of the one in the fvdw-sl package when preparing a new disk for the internetspace to run the fvdw-sl firmware
But remember not all features of the fvdw-sl firware will work. To solve that we need a dedicated compiled kernel.
edit 3 sept 2011 as said the dedicated kernel is now available and the isp1 is fully supported in the fvdw-sl firmware, all features work :ugeek:
