Fan control?

When the system is in wol state, basically all disks are sleeping, and the CPU is not mining bitcoins, and so hardly any heat is produced. I think you can simply assume the disks will be cooled down in half an hour. If they are not, either the fan doesn't work (dust?), or the environment temperature is too high. In both cases it makes no sense to let the fan run any longer.

Hi @Jocko or @fvdw

I bought another second hand 1 disk model "Network Space 2". It seems to keep the LED ON during WOL state. Could you please remind me how to fix the LED functionality in the Wake-On-LAN / WOL state

I managed to update it to
Code: Select all
Firmware Version   fvdw-sl 18.2 patched (nwsp2)
Kernel:   Linux 4.14.133 #1 PREEMPT Wed Jul 17 14:46:56 CEST 2019

and tried to follow the earlier message thread to reproduce the state, but seems like something is wrong.

I also loaded the update like described here, but seems like it does not do the job.

So install the new files:
Code: Select all
plugout download 6523
tar -xf /tmp/fvdw-sl-18-x-fix-noatime-samba-21sep2020.tgz -C /
and you have to reboot the nas for fixing the issues on system partition and samba.
After restarting, please to post the output[code]

I just noticed that another Lacie NAS that I have, 1 disk model "Network Space 2" with firmware version 18-2 keeps the blue LED on also in Standby with WOL. That one does not have fan at all and it does keep the disks off/not spinning.

This one with fan and fan control daemon is 2 disk model "Network Space MAX". The MAX with fan has LED off in standby with WOL state.

Hi Jaker thats an old post you are referring to. Think it is no longer valid. Unfortunate Jocko is not available on this moment. You will need to wait until he has time to look into this

Thank you for letting me know. I'll wait if he can remember something about this. I tried to follow the earlier posts as I've got this fixed for another unit, but I couldn't repeat everything and get the new(used) one fixed.

Hi jaker,

It is an old topic and the attached files are no longer available.

If you install the latest roll-up patch for version 18-2, the issue should be fixed

Hi and thanks for replying. Seems like patch does not fix it. I even loaded the patch again to check if it changes anything. Do you have any ideas what to try next?

Hi

Can you confirm your 2d nwsp2 (which LED stays ON) is a Lite version whereas the first is not.

Yes, 2nd nwsp2 (which LED stays ON) is a Lite. (Not working second hand 1 disk model "Network Space 2" (LED ON in WOL state))

One with correct operation for LED is "classic". (Working 1 disk model "Network Space 2" (LED OFF in WOL state))

Identification was based on these pictures:

Hi

You may have this behaviour if the first install uses fw version 15.3 or 16.0.

We go to check this point :
Code: Select all
mkdir /tmp/sda7
mount /dev/sda7 /tmp/sda7
cat /tmp/sda7/etc/fvdwversion
cat  /tmp/sda7/etc/boot.log
